Ryan Air Android App – be careful

Great progress. Finally Ryan Air offers as well a mobile application for Android or IOS users. So, times are over
where you paid a fortune at the check in counter if you had forgotten to print out your boarding pass. So far – so good.

Flying over to Germany today i tried it out to check in on both OS. The user interface  is really straight forward and as you already know from other airlines. You can book and manage flights and you can check in. Ryan Air would not be Ryan Air if there would not be the usual traps where to spend extra money. Book seats in advance, rent a car, the well known additional insurance ready to book as well and for sure the hotels. No big deal in a rudimentary design environment. Who cares? I only want to check in without using any ink. At the end boarding passes have been the last remaining reason for me to keep my printer in my house. This is gone now.

What became really obvious to me was, that the latency time of both apps (Anroid and IOS) is really high. Meaning that the response time while entering your details is very high and it took me several tries to get everything done. Actually doing print outs is still faster – lots of room for improvement my dear developers. But what really annoyed me this morning was, that there has been an usual app update overnight (Android vs 2.1 August 12th 2014) and my boarding pass (saved on my Sony xperia P) was gone. Well, wasn´t really gone – you simply can´t open the boarding pass menu. Not really nice when you realize that at the airport.

I expected the worst at customer service, meaning to being fully charged for additional check in but that was not the case. After explaining my case they offered me a re-print of my boarding pass free of charge. So here I go again with a piece of paper and some ink. And it works.

So please Ryan Air plus developers, quickly do an update again on Android version 2.1. Thanks.
